Ear, Nose and Throat

The Enhanced Community Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) service provides specialist advice and treatment for a range of ENT conditions. Specialist ENT doctors and their multi-disciplinary team aim to diagnose your condition, arrange any investigations necessary and provide treatment as needed.

Patients benefit from ENT services in one place delivered by a local team.

About the Enhanced Community ENT Service

Care is provided by consultants, GPs with special interest, clinical assistants, specialist nurses and a dedicated support team. It provides assessment and treatment for children over the age of five and adults. It covers a range of conditions including:

  • Balance / Dizziness
  • Ears
  • Microsuction for impacted ear wax
  • Nose / Sinus
  • Snoring (not Sleep Apnoea)
  • Throat (incl Voice / Swallowing)
  • Tinnitus

Accessing the service

People are referred into the service by their GP.

An ENT specialist will then review the information provided by the GP to decide where it is most appropriate for you to be seen. This will usually be within two days of the service being contacted by the GP and makes sure that patients are seen in the right place, by the right clinician at the right time.

  • If the service thinks that the GP can provide the necessary treatment and support within their practice, patients will be referred back to their GP with a treatment plan

  • If a patient needs hospital treatment, Communitas will organise an appointment at the patient’s preferred choice of hospital

  • If it is most appropriate for the patient to be seen within the Enhanced Community ENT Service, a member of the Communitas team will contact patients by telephone to arrange a suitable appointment. Patients can choose which of the four Communitas clinics listed below they wish to attend.
