Update on provision of non-urgent transport services in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Luton
The East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST), the new caretaker provider of non-urgent patient transport services, is putting in place new arrangements to provide transport services in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Luton.
All patients who are eligible for patient transport, and have transport booked for their next out-patient appointment, should call EEAST’s contact centre on 01603 481208 to confirm their transport arrangements. Eligible patients should also use this number for making bookings.
So that operators can focus on helping patients with urgent queries we are encouraging service users to phone the call centre for immediate bookings or to confirm imminent journeys. If you have a general enquiry or are asking about bookings into the future it would help if you can hold off on phoning the call centre this week.
We are encouraging patients who are able to make their own way to their appointments to do so if possible.
The priority for everyone concerned is to get the new service fully established to meet patients’ needs, and making sure patients know how to access the service.
We are aware that there have been concerns about the quality of the transport service from the previous provider and we are committed to making sure that future services meet the needs of patients.
