NHS cyber attack – west Hertfordshire update

Last week’s international cyber attack has had a serious impact on the NHS across the country. Despite these difficulties the NHS has stood up well to the problems posed by the attack.

Locally, West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust (the organisation that delivers hospital services at Watford General, Hemel Hempstead and St Albans City Hospitals) has experienced significant IT issues since last Friday although these are unrelated to the cyber attack.

There have also been some problems with some west Herts GP surgeries too.

So NHS Herts Valleys CCG is advising people to continue to use NHS services as normal – including attending pre-booked appointments at hospitals and local GP surgeries although there may be some delays. If your appointment has been affected then you will be contacted.

It is very important however that residents use NHS services wisely – especially A&E departments – as the NHS is under pressure both locally and across the country.
